Transcript of the Tamworth Pigs

0:01
These are Tamworth pigs
0:04
this pig is enjoying a scratch why don’t
0:07
you give them a scratch whilst you are
0:09
here but these Tamworth pigs actually
0:12
despite their name
0:14
originated in Ireland but this chap
0:17
called sir robert peel brought them over
0:18
to Tamworth in about
0:21
1813 where they were first recorded and
0:25
these guys are particularly good at
0:27
grazing in woodland areas and they are
0:31
very good at converting all of this
0:33
green shrubbery into meat they are a
0:37
dual purpose breed so they’re good at
0:38
producing normal pork and bacon as well
0:42
they’re not particularly fast growing
0:44
which is why they are now actually
0:46
considered vulnerable they are on the
0:49
top list for the rare breed survival
0:51
trust as being one of the most
0:53
vulnerable groups of species of pig in
0:56
the whole of the Uk so we’re very
0:58
pleased to have two here at the farm one
1:00
girl and one boy and we’re looking to
1:02
get some more very soon so say hello to
1:06
our pigs give them a scratch when you
1:08
walk past and be very happy to see them
1:10
because they’re so rare that we are
1:13
pleased we’ve got them here on the Farm
1:15
who are enjoying the woodland life
